Help me make a choice please....
Have had an Orange z1010 and a Voda V800 out for 14 days on a trial each. Have returned both cause I cant decide which I want. I have good points and bad points about each namely:
1 - V800 I think is a much sexier phone.
2 - Better content on the home screen of Orange
3 - If you are out of 3g the Voda still has the higher quality content videos etc available, Orange downloads the lower quality ones.
4 - Live! has unlimited browsing on its home pages but it gets stale after you have seen it all and the whole how much data transfer thing is well confusing!
5 - Live! charges are a bit mad - e.g £2.50 for find and seek which doesnt recognise my location anyway as opposed to Orange being free and "finding" me!
What to do.............

Well do you need open net access? If not then I would go with a A1000! It is similar to the P900. If you dont want three for whatever reason then I would maybe wait a bit, unless you really want a 3G phone quick! Have you looked that the Nokia 6630? That is on orange, vodafone, T-mobile and three soon! If you get that then it is just up to what network you choose! I wouldnt get the Z1010 as there are loads of newer, better hands out like the V800 for instance!
Like I say, have a look at the A1000. You can probably get it cheaper than the others as well! btw it looks big in pictures you see but it is the same size a a V800, just a littlw wider!
Get back to me what you think of the A1000. If you dont like it have a look at the 6630. Its a really nice phone.
I can see why you did this thread. It is a really hard choice!

From the choices I'd say the Z1010. Love mine, and the Orange content is pretty good. Still has some way to go, but there's some fantastic pieces of kit on there already and it's much better to use than Vodafone Live!
Three??! Chaslam! ¬_¬ And a Moto aswell! Pfft
The only thing that'd make me say V800 is the Voda music downloads... but even then I think I'd rather have Orange's extensive 3G coverage.

Well I Thought that it was similar to the P900 so he might like it! OkOk I can see why they might not want to go onto three but whats wrong with motorola! After all they invented mobile phones!! (theres a useless fact for you lol!).
Im not saying the Z1010 is bad, its a great phone. But there are much newer, updated phones out there like the V800 (which sould be coming out on other networks soon).
If you value 3G that highly, what with the video calling and premium content, then maybe you should consider a V800, its the nicest flip ive ever seen...?
Apart from that feature wise the P900 is not far away from these phones, and there is always something better round the corner :D

Well I have just read in another thread that the Z1010 has been discontinued. Well I suppose that is the end of that choice!

A smartphone with no data access.. nope, not seeing what's wrong with that... not to mention that Motorolas are just horrible (but that part's opinion :P).
I'd imagine you can still get the Z1010 in Orange retail stores.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm not averse to trying Three, I have mates on this network and despite all the bad posts on this forum I dont think they have had many problems.
I guess i could wait a while but I'd like to go 3g again for the faster data speeds. maybe the A1000 is worth a look, anyone know if the famed walled garden can be circumvented on the phone?
Have to say that i like the 6630 too but if I'm going 3g again may as well get a phone with ability to video call, even if its a feature I would rarely use.
I forgot to say the other choice is to shoehorn in P910 software into the P900 and live with that for a few more months. Maybe the new P series will be 3g and solve this.......
"I guess i could wait a while but I'd like to go 3g again for the faster data speeds."
Be warned, 3uk does not support data, apart from its own content. The wall is still there and will be for a while yet by the looks of things.

"anyone know if the famed walled garden can be circumvented"
No, it can't.
"if I'm going 3g again may as well get a phone with ability to video call"
You can purchase an attachment for the 6630 that allows face-to-face video calls. Otherwise you can still video call, but the other end will only see out your rear camera. The Vodafone incarnation comes with the attachment, apparently.
"You can purchase an attachment for the 6630 that allows face-to-face video calls."
Which cost about £60 if I recall correctly, it might be best to buy the attachment if you want video callin ability, and take the free 50MB data package from orange wich must be worth £45-£65 a month at current rates. As I have stated before, a smartphone with out data is like a DB9 without an engine!! The 6630 has some bugs though, which im sure will be sorted soon.

Thanks for the feedback folks.
Flying in the face of most of the poll votes I am going to head back to Orange 3g with a z1010 and keep my P900 as a day phone, the z1010 as the after work phone. Mainly because the Vodafone content I thought was abysimmal and their price structure which even now I have the bill in for the 14 Day trial still hurts my head.
The only spanner in the works now will be if Orange release the v800 before or near the end of this 14 day period!

Good choice!
*cowers in a corner and hopes you get a stable Z1010...*
Check the software version, in store if possible.

You're looking for R1K010 or later. The third letter in is a good indicator, anything earlier than K is probably a bad sign, but I suspect you will get the latest version available - Orange have been pretty good at keeping their stock up to date. Still, so long as you give it all a thorough checking I'm sure all will be well.
Good luck!

Cheers abs.
I'm not that naive to think that the z1010 is the technically better phone, but i've played with both and there is not really a hell of a lot a of difference between interfaces and day to day operations.
I've ordered mine from the online store and it should arrive today. I'll be checking the software and if it aint R1K will be getting it changed.
