Hutchinson Whampoa's chairman Li Ka-Shing has hit out at phone manufactors and said three's expected failure to reach 1 million customer target was due to them.
3 said we had good momentum in signing up new customers but this was broken when the phones came in short supply from the phone manufactors.
The companys (NEC and Motorola) didn't meet the supply of 3's orders and NEC evan delayed delivery for more than 2 months and then said they cant deliver any.
This was unexpected.
Motorola aslo delayed deliveries and did supply 3 with some phones later on but these were sold straight away leaving no stock for new orders from new customers.
He also said that the 3G operator wont break even in 2005 as planned but maybe in 2006 or 2007.
