Hi,
Me and my friend both bought a Z1010 on Saturday (18/12) and we seem to be having a serious problem and I am at a loss why Orange cannot understand the problem!
What we have found is if the phone is on the SAME 3G cell for over two hours with out making or receiving any calls (or SMS, MMS etc) we can no longer receive calls (voice, video, SMS or MMS etc) until you either
a) Make an outgoing call (any type or SMS, MMS)
b) Power the phone down and back up
c) Go for a drive so you swap to a different cell
Anyone else noticed this?
BTW we have full 3G signal strength as the cell is about 500 meters away so the phone does not keep swapping cells. If the phone can see other cells the problem does NOT happen!

I've suffered similar issues, but not as bad as you say. I'd seriously consider giving these back under the 14 day guarantee thing if they're behaving that bad for you.

That's really interesting. there have been some other posts about calls not being received although it's unclear whether it's a Z1010 specific problem or a more general Orange 3G problem. I've just taken my Sanyo back and swapped it for a Z1010 which I'm very happy with, I have missed a few calls though. I'm going to experiment and see if I have the same problem.

The same thing has been reported on this forum for Orange's Sanyo phones - looks like Orange really are having teething problems if its not just restricted to a given handset but appears to affect their network.
Anyone else having the same problem?

Returned my first Z1010 but the replacement is much, much better - must have been a rogue handset originally.

After spending a week of getting no where with 350, I reluctantly took the phone back this afternoon under their 14 day guarantee. Really unhappy that this was the only way to get a problem resolved. However I did not want a phone / network that may never work and being stuck with a 12 month contract :(

You have absolutely done the right thing under the circumstances. You can always go get another one later. Just think of the hassle you would have had if you'd kept it past the 14 days!
I always think the customer should have the upper hand.

i've had this problem. it is not just 3g. i only have 2g coverage at home and i had this problem a few times yesterday. i would get a voice mail text alert to say i had voice messages even tho my phone was on and with full 2g coverage.

Yep, that seems to be the thing, even if it says it has ful 2G coverage (regardless of what level of 3G coverage they display), you can't (yet) rely on them to actually be working.

This seems to be a huge problem with Orange and both the Z1010 and the Sanyo phone - what the hell is going on?
Voda's roll out seems so far to have been smooth. Did Orange have their hand forced by the Voda launch and jumped in too quick.
THis appears to be a huge problem going on all the feedback - time for a poll?

In fact I've just started a poll in the Orange UK Network thread.
Please feel free to vote
It would be interesting - and helpful for potential/existing Orange customers - to see if this is a common problem

Not noticed this, had noticed that I'd got more missed calls, but put it down to the ring being quieter, and the phone being in another room most of Christmas. Now I know to look out for it, I'll keep an eye out.

I've not had a problem with this yes. Phone has not rung for days, got the wife to phone it and it rang first time.
This *is* on 2G though.

Just a small update I am now a happy '3' customer with a Motorola E1000, incomiing and outgoing working fine with NO problems what so ever!

Just you wait! :)
Personally, if there was a major incident, and all 4 main networks were wiped out in my area, and the only option was 3, I'd rather do without a phone :D
Errrrr.... Same goes for Vodafone, actually
*AHEM!*
No other networks affected here!

Well in my opinion Ademobile welcome to the revolution lol
And there are far fewer people on these boards reporting problems with 3s E1000 than there are with Orange's Sanyo or Z1010
I think you'll like the phone ;-)

Hi All,
I've been battling to get out of my contract with Orange since December. I reported the problem with the phone ie. no access, no signal, or when I have a signal I make a call and all the bars disappear before I hear the duh duh duh sound, within the 14 day period. However as their technical department will not admit there is a problem I can't get out of the contract.
I am writing a letter to Orange Complaints to try and get at least one person reprimanded, hopefully sacked as the person dealing with the issue has been absolutely useless. I also want to get rid of this bloody phone and 3G and go back to my k700i.
Has anybody had any luck with rejecting this phone, or is everyone stuck in the same boat as me?
I am contemplating legal action to see if that helps get Orange to pull their finger out as they have sold me a faulty product.
Could we perhaps get a petition together for all the Z1010 owners who want to get out of their contract for the same reason. I am quite happy to put a list of names and numbers together in my complaint letter.
Cheers
S.

You can get out of the contract within the 14 day period regardless of the reason... it's your right. They don't need to admit it's a problem.
Have you had the phone replaced yet? If not, you have old software. Get them to send you a new one. I don't see why it'd be a problem, I've had four. The fourth working perfectly... the others with varying degrees of success.
