Don't work for 3 but they should have your IMEI as they use it to block your phone if it is stolen

well,
i used to have a moto a835, sold it as borke down 6 times, no im told that if i send a moto a835 again they send me a925.
so if i buy a a835 and say it was the one that broke down 6 times will the repair centre know that there differnet fones?

When you book the phone for repair do they ask for the imei ?
Yes they do - they will have your old imei logged at repair and at CS , your new imei will be logged at repair only .
Short answer give it a go , wonder if they would class it as some sort of fraudulant claim , time for juve hall !
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 03:55 PM
yea what will happen if they know that its not the same phone?

Wont get an exchange as it hasnt been in for repair before .
Then they might look into your account and see that you had a 925 sent out and ask the question why are you trying to defraud them ?
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 03:58 PM
ive never had a925 sent out to me before though.
i have never had it replaced with a different handset, only replaced twice with a835.

peel the IMEI sitcker off and put 240v through the phone - that should render the IMEI uncheckable
Three are there to be abused after all :)
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 04:05 PM
wont they be suspicosu about that or will they still change it for the a925?
i was thinking though the last repair they sent me a refurbished a835. will they have noted down the imei number of what they where sending me ?
and what do you mean put 240v throught fone?

Strange thing to do , fry your phone and then hope they dont spot any customer damage ?
Anyway , what have you got to lose ?
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 04:09 PM
shall i peel of the imei number, but they cna just press that nuber sequence on the fone to find it out cant they ?
JB's Best Mate
19-12-2004, 04:14 PM
*#06# you mean .
They book them in with the imei , so no label then they have to get the imei of the phone electronically.
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 04:15 PM
so i might aswell leave the label on?
please cna you just tell me do you think they will send me the a925?

19-12-2004, 04:16 PM
NO ! sorry but cant see you getting away with it.
Looney
19-12-2004, 04:16 PM
well it was an instinctive reaction ! probably not a foolproof plan on reflection
I remember someone on here had two contracts , an a920 on one and some other phone that isn't relavent (e606 ? )
Anyhoo - he had had the e606 for a full year , and the a920 for a few months , but he phoned 3CS and blagged the unlock code for the a920 (for £15) ! by saying he had had it for a year ! (a phone that hadn't even been out for 6 months or so !)
I remember CS said " your phone is an e606" , and he replied "no , it is an a920 ,I have it in my hand " , gave them the IMEI and they gave him the code !!
(who was it ? anyone remember ? I think it may have been "Ice returns"
But not sure )
Anyway - this demonstrates that , not only are CS crap , but they are also fully aware of their crapness ! so should be "foolable"
I'd judt do it and plead ignorance - if they tell you it is the wrong phone say "well you must have sent the wrong one back to me after the last repair !! " - are they confident enough in their abilities to tell that definately didn't happen ? I doubt it !! :)

Looney
19-12-2004, 04:20 PM
Don't know for certain - impossible to tell untill you try , but I can't see what they could do if you insist it is the one that was last returned to you by them !
Can't see how they could prove you to be lying

they should have the imei recorded in your details with customer services.if you purchased and registered..yes they will.
if you have ever sent for repair??go to store you sent from and they can find it mate.
Looney
19-12-2004, 04:25 PM
at the end of the day I cant see it causing you any trouble
After all , worst case scenario ,they accuse you of sending the wrong phone, you tell them you have two a835's and you got muddled between the two -
Easy mistake to make - hardly fraud !

hi branston tang,
i used to work for 3, in answer to your question, when a customer brings a phone in for repair, i used log all the phone details such as model and type of phone, imei number, mobile number, customer details.
these details are logged manually in a 3day repair file and then logged onto the 3repair system, so the progress of repair can be tracked.
customer services will also have these details on their system.
the repair centre will know your imei number because it will have been logged on the system. as far as i know, if there are any problems, they would query them.
did you buy it from a 3 retail point or somewhere else.
hope this info helps you or i can ask some friend who work for 3.
regards.

hi thanks for your reply,
i got it from phones 4 u.
so the reapir centre have my imei on record. so when i send me different a835 off they will know and not replace it is that the case?
and also could you ask your mate would they probably find out its a different fone and what they would do when they find out its a different fone thanks that would be great.

The IMEI has which handset it is hardcoded into it. If I type in the first 4 digits of an IMEI the system knows that make and model of phone it is.
To qualify for a replacement phone, the phone must have been returned 3 times previously, and the job reference numbers for each time noted down. These are then cross-referenced by TotalRepair (the 3 repair contractors) and the phone is exchanged.
They will know if your handset has been tampered with, so no it won't work.

hi branston,
if you send your different moto a835, they will know because of the different imei and will not replace it.
has to be sent off 3 times and as far as i know, it has to be for the same fault.
they would definitely see it's a different fone, simply because the imei's will not match and they will query it.
i have tried to answer your question to the best of my knowledge from when i used to work for 3 and spoke to my friend who agrees as well with what i have posted.

Yep, not 6 times as has been suggested.
The 3 times rule is an unwritten rule, however. There is nothing in the terms and conditions stating this and Three do not have to honour this. In 99% cases, however, they will :)

There are 4 standard letters that TotalRepair send out.
Most likely, they'd send you the "the unit has been found to be faulty but is now out of warranty. The repair cost would be £*** " letter.
So yes, you'd get the phone back, probably. But they'd ask for a load of money.

hi branston,
as jimmy has said in his post, that's exactly what would happen.
you will have to pay to get it repaired and it will "COST"
sorry mate.

If youve swapped IMEI stickers round, and done sneaky things, that'll classify as a breach of contract and the warranty will be voided. So yes.
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 10:24 PM
yea but i havent modified the fone in anyway to affect the warranty, all i m doing is sending a different fone, so would they still say its out of warranty?

Oh, no. I thought you were going in for the whole swapping IMEI stickers thing.
The phone is therefore in warranty. If you're not doing anything behind their backs, and it has indeed been fixed 3 times, they might send you an A925. But then, I sent an e606 back recently and they replaced it with an e606 (even though theyre even older than the A835's.)
If they have no 835's left atall, they may indeed give you an A925. But it's got to have been fixed 3 times previously, and they know if it has.

oh wel they know i have sent an a835 to them 6 times but this a new handset and i was trying to say it was the one been sent 6 times.

Yes, they'll have the old IMEI. Sorry but your scam isn't going to work, on any level. If it's on contract, why not sell it on ebay and upgrade to an A1000 or something?
BranstonTang
19-12-2004, 10:36 PM
what do u mean sell my a835 because i dont think that will cover the costs for a 1000 how ever much i wished.

Hmm, can't remember the exact upgrade price but i think that'd be around £250 so yeah you wouldn't be able to get that back from selling the 835.
If you decided to upgrade to T&T600, you'd get the A1000 for £79....

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !
How do you know I don't have AIDS already ,and would that make me less of a person in your eyes then ? Its people with attitudes like yours that are responsible for a lot of the Prejudice in the world today - How about a more adult approach to such issues ? the world would thank you for it
And as for abusing Three's incompetance , a company that obviousy couldn't give a stuff about their customers deserve this kind of thing in droves IMO
Branston - Thinking about it , in light of the recent £55 charges that have been cropping up , there is always the gamble that you will get a charge levvied when you return to TRS , so for this reason also , you may be better holding off
For an a1000 a new contract is always the way to go ! I was told by Three that I could have an a1000 on VT500 (mid contract) for £279 !!
or at 11 months for £129 -
So I did the sensible thing and told them to stick it , Then one Free on a new contract for a yearly total of £202.50 - then sold the a925 for £100 on ebay
Voila - an a1000 for £102.50 (total outlay for year) + the benefit of an extra 500 minutes a month for my trouble
Ok so in my good fortune , The retailer forgot to bill me the £39 the phone should have cost ( :) ) , but if you are near the end of a contract then even if you paid the £40 it'd be cheaper than the upgrade fee Three will charge you

As a company, of course we care about our customers.
As a Three employee, if you were to come into my store with any of the problems you've mentioned over the months, I would go as far I possibly could to help you out, as I do to many others on a regular basis.
As a person posting on this forum on his day off, I don't care about you, your politics, or your longing for 'adult approaches' to sitting on forums whinging and trying to put a spanner in the works.
