Hi everyone,
I have cleared things up with a CSR on 350.
You can upgrade to a 3G phone for the cost of the phone plus your relevant upgrade fee if applicable.
The upgrade price of the phones look really low on the site.
Your upgrade fee depends on how long you have been under contract or if you are out of it.
Here are the stipulations -
If you are under contract you have to be on at least Your Plan 200 to upgrade.
You will get the 60 minutes of video calls free per month
You will get the 50MB data free per month - this is pure data or internet downloads.
You will NOT get the duplicated evening minutes for life or ever (only for new contracts)
You will NOT get the 1000 free evening texts within 6 months or ever either (only for new contracts)
MMS bundles are NOT included for anyone
The content (called Event Charges) is from £0 to £5 per item downloaded from Orange or their partners accessed through Orange World. This is NOT part of the 50MB.
When you finished your included stuff, it's 50p per MB and video calling is 50p per minute.
This info is from Orange online. The 3G stuff is just add ons to their existing tariffs so the 3G element is the only bit that is promotional.
I will be going to an Orange Shop to see if the offers are any different later today. Hope this helps............

Are Orange offering OVP style of deals for 3G ?
As it is then, it looks like I get a better deal by terminating my existing Orange contract (?), or by going elsewhere (Voda's £40 offer maps well to what I'd use, or 3s T&T900 offer).
Anyone with experience of Orange CS / retentions department in this area ??

The only info I was given is they are not allowed by regulations to match a promotional tariff - case in point the Voda special 3G tariffs.
They may match the normal tariffs and the normal data rates.

Typical of Orange not to do anything for old customers! I was on to their customer service on Wednesday and trying to get a good deal & they couldn't offer me as good a deal as a new customer  despite being with them for ten years & eight months!
Have got my PAC code and am leaving for 3. The only thing they did do was to offer to price match the 3 tarrif for me but they were saying they loose money on doing this! My argument was that they still keep their customer by doing this & therefore that must be good. I also told them that my clients that have been loyal to me (freelance hair stylist) get the same treatment as my new customers.
Still I shall hopefully be more than happy with my new Motorola A1000.

NB2CREW, surely offering to price match 3 was a good deal?
You may be happy with your a1000, but whether you'll be happy with 3 is a lottery.

"Typical of Orange not to do anything for old customers!"
They give you the video calling and data. The other 'offers' are only for new subscribers, and this kind of practice goes on with all the networks.
Anyway, enjoy your A1000 on 3 with no open data! :(

I hope you dont mind repeating things over and over whoever just joined 3.
I remember and always will the time i had to get my phone repaired. I said to them clearly
'Hi there, my NEC 606 is starting to play up on me, the phone works ok until im in a call when the person on the other end of the phone cannot hear me'
The Indian CS lady said 'so your phone wont turn on'
I said 'yes it will it works fune until i make a call but the other person cannot hear me'
Her reply ' does your screen come on'
I asked to be put through to the scottish team who had mo probs sorting it for me.
Almost as good as the time they tried telling me that there is NO DROPPED CALL ISSUE WITH 3 when i said there was, they tried telling me no there is no problems with dropped calles when guess what............... 1/2 way through them tring to explain the call dropped :D

Offering to price match three's wasn't a bad thing however they did still expect to charge me a large amount for a new handset. As an existing subscriber that has spent a lot of money with them over nearly eleven years (I am self employed).
The nearest handset at the time to the A1000 was a P910. It seems that the department that tries to get you to stay has a budget they work from & the deals they offer are based on a constantly changing one!
I had experienced various problems with my Nokia 6600 which I was paying out for insurance to Orange. Each time I reported a fault - they told me there was nothing wrong with the phone. By the third time I reported this fault (which was getting worse) - I tucked onto the end of the conversation - "it must be since I dropped it". As soon as I said this it was agreed that there WAS a fault and a new one - sorry I MEAN a replacement handset (basically a refurbed one) would be shipped out to me and I would be charged an administration fee of £15.00. Funny how they changed their mind from previous diagnostics!
Orange never used to charge for insurance but sadly there seems to be a lot more people claiming these days for their phones (Orange seem to be of the mindset that it's dishonest people after a new phone) and so they have to charge for this facility. Sadly your insurance doesn't cover you for a NEW phone but a refurbished handset instead.

Am I to assume that you have a grudge against 3? Have you had a bad experience with them then? If so I AM sorry to hear so.
I am new to this forum and so I cannot say I have read loads of bad press on 3. It seems there are a lot of people that ARE buying their handsets. As for getting what I deserve - well I am already on my second contract with 3 and I cannot say I have had any problems with them so far! My first handset wasn't too hot... a NEC 616 I think. My second phone is an LG which works ok and is probably the first handset that is like a 2g phone.
I called someone on my Nokia 6600 which is on the Orange network today and the call dropped out three times (she is on vodaphone). Sadly the nature of wireless calls means that they don't work the same as a phone with wires attached to it.
As long as the phone works and I can make calls & receive them I am sure it will be fine. If it works as well as the LG has in the last six months I won't complain.
As for customer service - well us Brits seem to have a problem with giving this. I am constantly fed up with the way companies treat their customers but I also see how rude and obnoxious the consumer can be too. I am sure there is a lot to be learned on both sides.
Unless the consumer starts to realise that there is no such thing as a free lunch & starts paying a fair amount for whatever service they require then they will keep getting crap service - maybe we shouldn't keep expecting everything cheap! Is there really a problem with 3's CS or is it due to the fact that the people in India (despite speaking English) don't really understand the nature of the problems people are experiencing.
The people at Orange just tap the problem into the computer and just repeat what it tells them to say to the customer. Sadly in my case I knew my phone DID have a fault but if the computer say's it hasn't - well what can one say. I have been using cellular phones for over twenty years and can usually work out if it's a software problem as opposed to a hardware one. Most users don't even understand the most simple things about their mobile phone
Thanks for your comments - I guess your opinion is just as valid as mine but our experiences are different. :D

The only problem I have found with Indian contact centres is the lack of culture knowledge. Other than that the service is more or less the same, plus in most indian call centres you need a degree to work in one and most Indian CSR's are paid more than doctors over there. I know this from first hand knowledge because I have set call centres up over there

Sorry Si,
I stand corrected - actually it might have been 18+ years....but I DO remember that Cellnet had never fitted a car kit in a Renault 5 (till I turned up) - they had only done RR & Mercedes!
Also I REMEMBER that I had to pay for it over five years; original price was £1800 but with interest it was £2200 and that it weighed a ton. I now have one arm longer than the other. Also I got to know some of the people in the chairman of BT's office because I had so many problems - both with the installation as well as the phone itself.
Also I would be the only person in Kingston high street with a mobile (actually it was a transportable) and none of the peasant's owned phones and if a phone rang I knew it was mine. :D

True. So very true.
Back in 1993 at the tender age of 19 (well, my 19th birthday actually) I got the Cellnet "Lifetime for Leisure" tariff with a Motorola Personal ETACS phone (analogue to you and me!). Phone cost me £39.99 with a 12 month contract. The phone did not even have an LCD display!!!! :D
Line rental: £15/month
Calls were 50p/min Peak (8am-7pm M-F) 20p/min Off Peak to everything UK based (landline and mobile).
Text: Didn't exist
Voicemail (now here was the kicker) - 39p/min for picking up messages on 901. However, you also paid for people to LEAVE messages for you too! At 29p/min!!!!!!!
All billing was in 30 second units after the 1st minute, so to listen to one voicemail (even if it was someone putting down the phone) cost 68p!
The biggest fright was my first bill - £108! I made 3 calls at off peak times, each for less than 2 mins. The rest was my parents constanly trying to get hold of me when I had the thing switched off! 901 got binned after that! :D
Them's were the days!
Simon (A happy Orange customer for 9.5 years!)
PS: A bit of trivia for you - The first mobile call made on Vodafone was made by Ernie Wise on 1/1/85. The first on Cellnet (O2 to you and me) was made by Noel Edmonds at the same time (from the BT Tower and broadcast live on BBC1) . Does anyone know who made the first official call on One2One and Orange?

How do you know all this trivea mate?
I remember my first phone on One 2 One... it was a Motorola, my second was I think a Siemens & my third, fourth, etc etc till I had eight phones in six months!
When you called to speak to someone - sometimes you might get a cleaner in the office. I got to know the engineers really well as they were always dropping off phones to me. Despite the free evening & weekend calls it still had an echo which drove me mad!
I had to leave after six months & by that time Orange launched their PCN network and I bought a Nokia (still got it in the loft). I have been quite happy on Orange over the years but just got fed up with being treated as a second class citizen & spending a fortune. My bills have sometimes been £130 plus a month. Have just got fed up with spending so much money on calls - even now my total spending on telecommunications is well over a hundred quid & I would rather spend it on other things.
When the contract is up on 3 I can go back to Orange as a new customer & get a better deal! I realize they are all the same the way these companies treat customers so I have decided to play the field like others. I don't think it's good for business really but then they won't listen to me!
