Yeah , my theory is (cynic that I am !)
Three did this on purpose
1) not charge for email - till people start using it loads as it is the easiest way to get files onto the phones
2) Then , when usage is at a peak , suddenly start charging for it (with no official warning , of course ! )
3) reap the money you have just screwed out of your customers
at the end of the day , Three haven't done anything "wrong" per se , Just been a bit morally corrupt & underhand

I got a text message to say that email was now being charged. However, it came on the 2nd of December one day after -- but I've had worse notification with other networks

I am really annoyed about it...and am wondering no if i am going to be able to afford it now...i am a pre pay user and have to put £15.00 a month, but the free email clinched the deal. Too good to be true eh.
I loved my phone when i got it...now i am too scared to use any of the features in case i get charged for anything.

Easiest way? hmmm up for debate that one

No official warning what about the text message that was sent out to all users!
3) reap the money you have just screwed out of your customers.
Three are a business not a charity! would you expect your broadband at home to be free? or your GPRS charges on your 02 to be free? i think NOT
rememeber that 3 services are event based charged not by MB so how else can they do it?

I do not have any intention to start another 3uk Argument but come on Miffed play fair!

And i did'nt get a message...i figured it out on the 6th....6 days later ...and much confusion about where my credit was going!

The prices of sending email are clearly laid out in the price guide that came with the phone. If you were told otherwise by the store you purchased from then you have a fair point but im afraid that speaking personally that amount of misinformation thats comes out the average phone shop dude is at such a level that i tend to do my own research first, as with any other product.
I myself fell into this trap a year or so ago when i first became a three customer i was led to believe i could send recieve mms on the e606 in threes "video service area and there Voice and picture area" this quickly became a slight exageration of the truth and after a lot of shouting i got a free a835 to resolve the issue.
What was the result of the "shouting to the little man somewhere in the world"?

I was told differently...free email is why i bought the phone.
I realise now that i should have researched...i just thought that i could trust the dealer (I know different now)
As for the little man...i was just so pissed off...i hung up  would you reccomend calling back..if so, how should i go about it to get the best result?

If you did not recieve a text message that you do have a point about the lack of notice ( you could use that as ammunition agaisnt three when you try to resolve this)
Does not negate the fact though that email charges are clearly published in price guides thats where they have you by the balls im afraid, in my case of the MMS compatibility i had the evidence of there website to back me up. In those days it was just a map to show video area and voice and "picture" told them i would take them to court under the sale of good act. they back down i won.
In your case im struggling to see how you could form a case other than with the store itself, who was it by the way?

The problem is here a suitable solution, ie what do you actually want from them?
If the answer is free emails you aint going to get it.
If the answer is out of contract then you may have another recourse.
How long you had phone? is it threepay or contract?

Well for a start do phones 4 u have a 14day return policy like carphone warehouse?
If they do and your really unahppy about this take it back ASAP.
If your prepared to live with it and want to keep the phone then your options are extremely limited. In my experience contract customers are more valuable to netwroks especially when they spend a high monthly amount. I find this comes in handy when you have a problem. and you are dealing with the right person.
You mentioned that had shouted at Some bloke on the phone, im guesing you mean someone on the 3 customers services line. I can only imagine how that call went had a few myself over the years :-0
But to be fair your shouting at the wrong person you need to go and shout at the phones for you as there the ones that lied to you either out of a sheer lack of knowledge (most likely) or because they wanted you to buy a phone no matter what (prob a combination of the two things)
I once told by a phones 4 u store that 3G phones will never take off and they why they dont sell them, Admitlleythis was early on but were were standing right by a sales board in the same shop with three written all it- priceless
Actually , my GPRS on o2 is 100% free
Please do tell? unlimited access free? lets have the details, cus if it is i want a whatever you have got right now, today even!

Ok fair enough, the mysterious missing text message is hardly a new phenomnon on any network.
Speaking from my experience, i know 4 people with 3 phones and they all recieved the message as they phoned me to make sure i had recieved notification.

so they give priority to contract customers...?
Thats it youve got the idea!!!
Go one step further do not trust anyone that is trying to sell you something they are have alternnate agenda ie getting money out of your pocket
Your egenda is getting a phone to do what you want/think it should do
the two things arnt always compatible :-)

i suppose i should have known it was a bit too good to be true.
so they give priority to contract customers...?
Generally yes, as they have definate income from them and its in the best intrests to make them happy,
Dosent worrk as well on the lower tariffs but on a higher one you have a reasonable amount of leverage.
I suppose im fortunate that i use as much airtime/messages as i do and its paid by via my employer.
Its never let me down over the years with Orange/ vodaphone etc
Let me give you this example, you are aware of the diffrences between the 3Uk trariffs and orange well when i came to leave orange and after a lot of messing about and me be passed from pillar to post they offered to price match the deal i was getting from three!! I was astounded and impresssed but still left as it annoyed me intensely that if they could offer me that what didnt they before hand!
See my point?
i suppose i should have known it was a bit too good to be true.
Yeah i agree to a point but if thats what he said he needs a good slap!
I really get annoyed with retail sales staff who sell without any real knowledge and drop eople like yourself in it.
Im an IT consultant myself and you should her the BULL that comes out in places like Pcworld etc. I have actually walked up to prospective customers before now and told them they are being sold down the river, gold myself thrown out once.

Cool...they are rip off buggers!
I think a trip down to phones 4 u is in order...do ya think i could get a memory stick as compo?
hahaha
you can certainly try but i would not hold your breath
try and speak to the original sales rep and if not demand to see the shop manager.
Another piece of advice, dont go into the shop if its empty go in when its busy. they are more likely to want to shut you up. i did that about a year ago with a three point and got my issue resolved.
Above all go in with a fixed agenda but be prepared to be flexable

I have posted on this a few times recently - unfortunately it only works on a phone where you are able to change the Proxy port number -so If you have a P800 or a92X , You're in luck - but not sure who else is able to use it
