Recently, someone posted the original "They said..." advert on here and after watching it, it got me thinking about the ideas they've used since the launch to the present day.

Mid 2003 - "Open Your Eyes" - A sort of introduction and getting people to notice them

Late 2003 - "Take a Closer Look" - People have now "opened they're eyes" but didn't like what they saw, now with the Moto A920 + A835 out we are invited to take a closer look

Early 2004 - Anna Friel "The Evolution" - Now we're told it's the natural progression of mobile phones so we'll all have to buy them!

Early 2004 - Anna Friel "ThreePay" - WTF! Why would the shoes be charged per step or why would the breadstick talk to the wine? What have they been smoking?

Mid 2004 - "ThreePay Comparison" - A total change of sratergy. Instead of it being a bit mad and different + new, we have the facts shoved right of front of us. The start of the turn around point...

Mid/Late 2004 - "Welcome to our network" - Only 2 adverts so far. 1 of a drunk jellyfish. Then the cherry one, the one that gets everyone talking.

Late 2004 - Welcome to Planet3! - Starring a panda, a turtle + an eel (there's also a cow as well as can be seen on posters at 3points at on the right hand side here. (http://www.three.co.uk)) We have one advert invovling the wee little panda so far + tons of promotional leaflets in store with them on...

So, what campaign will they set out on next. You've got to admit it though, whether you love or hate them, they've had there ups and downs.

Indeed - one just can't argue with the variety outlined above. One has to wonder how many hours have been spent in meetings by well-paid advertising execs and 3 management constantly altering the message? OK so on here we are well aquainted with the goings on but the average consumer must be very confused... either that or all of the above are intended to appeal to different customer profiles?

Either way it's been an expensive (but sometimes entertaing) bash as far as the advertising campaigns are concerned.

I really like the Cherry one... I think it's the one everyone remembers. That Jellyfish one seems to stick in peoples minds too, but I find it really irritating :\

They're definitely their two best adverts, imho. The cartoon ones are a bit... basic.

My favourite was the Breadstick one ! and then it all went sort of sensible (i think someone in three's advertising dept got a bollocking / drug tested for that one) and they started talking about cheap calls etc

What's so appealing about being told the breadstick will have to pay more to talk to a wine bottle than another breadstick?

It's not the best way to get the fact over that a PAYG service has launched.

I find it very amusing thinking back of all the adverts. But the new one with cartoon animals is quite, um, cute once you get used to them being annoying @ the beginning :D

sngd2.1 you are so wrong those cartoon animals are great! I like the one where those pandas start singing that song and then that sun comes out and burns them to a crisp. It's cool the pandas are cute but not to soppy. (the cartoon anaimals were created by Mari Chan.)
