View Full Version : 3 Video Mailbox - Price Bombshell!
I have just checked out the interesting 3 Video Mailbox promo (slow, stuttering and about 10 attempts to connect!). Its in the My3 section of the services menu under 'What's New'.
It has been reported that these cost 25p/min to set up and are included in you normal call alllowance.
Not So!
It is 25p/Min to set up your Video Mailbox message BUT it is 50p/min to record a Video Mailbox message and 25p/min to receive them! (That charge applies as you have to access it via the 123 + Videocall function) Those charges are outwith your normal voice calling package (I have checked to confirm with 3 CS). They may be included if you have video minutes as an add-on but the operator was not sure about that...I suggest if you intend using this service you check to clarify the details.
The confusion about this pricing has nothing to do with 3 as they make the costs fully transparent during the brief video presentation.
This is a neat idea but at 50p/min to send them it may be relegated to a minor novelty. Pity it was'nt 25p/min to both send/receive!

Sorry I disagree, 3 are the only network to have videomail. It is a premium service and with the 20 mins of videocalls I get on video value (for a fiver a month plus i get a ll the normal downloads for free) I will be using this service and already have. I have a fun message setup so when people video call me and I'm on 2.5g or reject the call they get a message from a David Beckham lookalike. There are loads more to choose from, the novelty value alone is great!. Maybe your pee'd off cause your Nokia 7600 does not video call and you cannot use the service?

Ok I just went on to my 3 to check the 3 video mailbox promo
It states it costs 25 p to view your video mailbox and 50p to set it up.
the pricing is clear so people are made aware of the cost.
THERE ARE NO HIDDEN CHARGES

[QUOTE=3GScottishUser]I have just checked out the interesting 3 Video Mailbox promo (slow, stuttering and about 10 attempts to connect!). Its in the My3 section of the services menu under 'What's New'.

If you are already checking out the video mailbox promo it tells you how much it costs. So why do you say it has been reported unless you have not been on my 3 and just read it somewhere.
Just an observation
"It states it costs 25 p to view your video mailbox and 50p to set it up."
Wrong way round! (Checked again - the cost to receive/download/set-up is lower!)
25p/min to set-up or retrieve messages but 50p/min to send them (Standard UK Videocall prices)!
As already stated a neat little promo video explains all (In the"What's New" section of My3).

So where's the bombshell?

The only bombshell is in the title of this thread! 3GSU wants it all and then some and wants to pay next to nothing for it.
If vodafone or Orange had this service she would be praising it.
Her threads are comparable with a broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats - her threads are comparable with broken record that repeats, repeats, repeats and repeats itself!
Sorry I got carried away with ctrl+v there!

I disagree with 3GSU
To call Videomail (123) - 25p per min
To leave a videomail by videocalling some but they're not avalible - 50p per min.
How can 3 charge differently for different options selected during a call?
Falcon...
The concept has been praised! Only the price is dissapointing. As already stated 25p/min for send/receive would have been far more attractive as it's not as if you are engaged in a duplex videocall arrangement as is the case when making a proper videocall.

Nice to see lots of other users noticing a pattern of bias in 3GSUs posts
Have you also noticed how the man who bangs on about videocalls and their cost (when it relates to 3 anyway) has not posted Voda video pricing BOMBSHELL pointing out that voda charge EVEN MORE for video calls than he regularly points out 3 do.
Why would that be...????

Not that I'll actually be using the service (dont think it's really worth the bother) but outwith on 'Hero' tarriffs (50 Mins Inclusive Videocalling per month) the charges are: From Vodafone website:Video calling to Other Vodafone mobiles (per minute) 35p and to Other mobile networks (per minute) 55p.
So not quite the "voda charge EVEN MORE for video calls than he regularly points out 3 do."
Best to keep folks in touch with accurate information!

I'm still waiting for the price bombshell you promised in the threads title. As you so aptly put:
"Best to keep folks in touch with accurate information!"
Well I think (as stated above) that 50p/min is a bit steep for a simplex video message.
It also has to be rememberd that this was posted to clarify what others had been quoting regarding video mailbox messages being included in voice bundles.... so the 'bombshell' is the fact that they are not!

"50p is a bit steep for x network PHONE calls"????
Didn't stop certain 2G networks from charging it until not so long ago, though, did it?
£1.50 - international video call via 3.
How much is to use Voda / O2 2G VOICE whilst roaming, dependant on country?
Come on mate!

Well, not quite a "bombshell" then. As Three have never stated that it's included in any bundled minutes. So anything to the contrary has merely been information given in error from other sources.

This is the next step from voice mailbox. Now we have video phones we needed video mailbox.
I can see a use for it and 25p is not that expensive for the odd call into your mailbox.
Like everything I can see the price dropping as more and more people use the service.

Unfortunately 3GSU the hero tariffs are not all vodaphone tariffs
And the standard rate for video calls on Vodaphone is 55p thats more than 3 - and thats the Videocalling bombshell here.
No harm in your quoting special opening promo tariffs that Voda offer in selected retail outlets but as we know the HERO tariffs are not available as standard and are therefore not a true representation
Fact is voda = 55p standard, 3 is 50p standard.
3 is cheaper yet again...
From Vodafone website:Video calling to Other Vodafone mobiles (per minute) 35p and to Other mobile networks (per minute) 55p.
The above are the standard rates for videocalling from the Vodafone website and apply to all customers on all tarriffs!
So Vodafone offer cheaper videocalls within their network (30% cheaper than 3 to 3) and are about 10% more expnsive for X/Net - sort of swings and roundabouts really!

Having said that, at this current point in time, most video calls are going to be x-net (there are far more 3 videopohnes out there than Vodafone videophones)[/bleedinobvious]

"slow, stuttering and about 10 attempts to connect!"
I don't know why people seem to say this
When I QuickPlay or Save and Play, my videos always stream no problems!
First time to connect too!

I find streams inside my flat stutter (on a 5-bar 3G signal) and when Voda Live was demoed to me, it was a LOT faster than 3 (how much this has to do with me seeing about 4 or 5 3 phones in Newcastle on any given day, I don't know)
