Does anyone know what services do the BBC provide for 3? I only ask this because of a job advertised on the beeb's website (job reference 76258) working in their '3 production facility'.

Is this just the BBC being contracted (by siemens for 3) to manage 3's content or a sign that the BBC are about to be brought onboard to provide content for 3 (I wish!).

Anyone got any ideas?

Nope, that's BBC THREE, although the 3 could mean the network or the channel (or neither)

And why would Siemens contract the BBC to do content for 3 when there are no Siemens handsets, either current or annoucned on the 3 network?

That's 'BBC Three' and the radio station is 'BBC Radio 3'
The job description makes it clear it's for 3 the mobile network.

"The BBC Broadcast Ltd editorial team is contracted by Siemens Business Services Media Ltd to provide a content production and distribution service to the third-generation mobile phone network, 3. Working with the editorial team, you’ll review, re-purpose and develop content for this network, ensuring that content output and metadata meets agreed quality standards. This in turn will help to create an exciting service that enables people to interact with a mix of video, audio and static content via their mobile phone."

Hmmm. That doesn't mean they'll be working with BBC content though... although it is possible. Siemens are involved because they are the new owners of the newly-privatised BBC Technology.

matstrange, you confirmed my fear that it was just service based work not content. ITN news will have to do I suppose :(
