CPW must have managed to get their hands on more stock of this handset as they are now offering a 'web exclusive' giving it away free on Talk/Text 600 for £4.99/month. It was their sister company that previously pioneered this deal. 3's dealer incentives must be even more generous than usual....... don't hang about if you like the style/price etc.

(There will be many who will find the price just too cheap to believe! The sub £5 price point might just frighten some sceptics away!)

The 7600 seems to get a lot of slagging on these forums, but noone ever seems to be able to justify the critisism. The 7600 is a perfectly stable phone, which does exactly what it's supposed to, made by the top manufacturer of mobile phones.

If compared to the other phones currently available on the 3 network, it laughs in the face of NEC's and a reasonable size compared to the Motos, only the LG's can currently be said to be better in all aspects, (but even then the 7600 wins on battery life). I had one for a while before it was stolen and had no problems with it whatsoever.

Nokia is a top manufacturer of mid and low end handsets .

where is their video call .

7600 is appealling to girls . it is a piece of hardware design .

Not too smart in the protocol stack tho .

gprs over 3g? how does that work.

I'll continue your negative points

full bluetooth, full pc suite, install your own games, unlockable, holds a 3g signal, holds a 2g signal, rarely drops calls, low resolution helps battery life, single vga camera, no expensive video calling, 30 mb memory, pop port connection, fm radio headset.

3G uses a form of GPRS to deliver data to mobiles! Its packet switched and the same protocol as the LG and all the other 3G devices.

Not sure about the FM radio? I dont think mine has that.

i dont understand people who brand this phone as "rubbish" etc, look at the 6230 - people think that phone is the best thing nokia have ever made (and it's also their highest selling mid range phone ever) but apart from the 6230's mmc slot and fm radio and the 7600's bigger screen there's hardly much difference between them.

the design of the 7600 isn't for everyone but thats one of the main things i like about it; it's not a generic looking, boring phone. the keypad takes about 2 weeks to get used to so it's hardly a huge learning curve. look at touch tone phones when they were realeased and all the numbers on the keypad were put upside down so people wouldn't be able to dial as fast as to not overload the switchboard and now we dont think twice about using them.

i would hardly call a phone with a large 65k colour screen, 30mb of memory, stereo mp3 player/mp3 ringtones, bluetooth, changeable covers (i have leather/suede one on mine), good quality camera (same, if not better, as the 6600), stable and trusted o/s (series 40) and that cost me £30 a piece of junk...

2.5g = GPRS

3g = UMTS

so you have just said 3g uses a form of 2.5g to deliver data to mobiles, and Taster has said ....uses 2.5g over 3g.

it's like saying my radio uses longwave over fm stereo

I have to chip in and agree with Hecatae here. I've had mine for 8 months and apart from the occasional oddity, it's been very reliable. I've only had a couple of dropped calls in that time (and lets face it, you get that with any other network). It has more memory than the LG 8110 had. It has full bluetooth that actually works (the LG's don't have bluetooth) - and as for the keypad, as another poster said, you get used to it. Once you do, it's easy to use (I'm quite quick on mine) and it doesn't look like very other phone on the market. Oh, and there's plenty of stuff about you can install on it, so you're not locked down to 3 content if you like your games.

I had a 616 for about 24hrs and it made me jump for this one like a shot - it's miles better. Ok, it doesn't do video calls, but who cares ? I can still do video messaging and watch all that overpriced 3 content...

The phone is just fine - the network is another thing, mind....

If they're going that cheap, I'd recommend to anyone to get one.

M.

Lets get this straight!

GPRS = General Packet radio System. It is a packet based technology that can be employed over GSM or UMTS. Obviously there is a difference in terms of bandwidth - so GPRS is faster over UMTS - the technology involved in the process is however the same. Some confusion regarding this matter - hopefully explained now!

"I think 3 have finally showed how much handset Manufacturers bump on top of their products"

Nope - I think you will find that most networks subsidise handsets!

3 just paid LG $3,000,000,000 for 1 million handsets - thats about £175 each - yet they sell them in shops for about £170! dont forget the dealer gets some of that too!

Handsets are not a profit maker for anyone other than the makers and the dealers!

Hmmm yeah proven wrong!

I think they have really invested..... do you think 3 will make their money back

A1c
07-11-2004, 08:33 PM
Highly unlikely that they will. At this point I would'nt put any money on any of the rest making a return either. It'll be an uphill struggle for all of them but 3 have the toughest job as the rest have a large custoner base to start with.

hello all....i agree with most that the ergonomics of the nokia 7600 is pretty abysmal, but it allows upload of java games (it was the smallest phone capable of it until someone wrote the code for the LG uploader) and there is the availability of generic firmware for the phone....don't think there is any smaller phone in 3's lineup that has both these features (i know the motorolas can be flexed/flashed and uploaded with java games, but they're HUGE.)

its got quite a substantial on board memory (29MB) for a phone w/o expansion slots (WHAT A PITY...stupid Nokia), and its got interchangeable covers for those who are careless with their phones.....that said, messaging is a real pain in the neck, and Symbian OS and an FM radio has been left out of this phone. That is so typical of Nokia man....they upgrade a certain model, but will always leave something out....the 6230 lacks symbian, the 6600 lacks an MP3 feature (unless you install a 3rd party SW), the N-Gage QD while symbian only has a 4k-colour screen....gosh! one of these 2 features (expansion slot/symbian) would have been really appreciated on the 7600!!!!

Nokia leave stuff out of their phones on purpose to encourage us to buy multiple handsets. I doubt we will ever see the ultimate phone from them with all available features in one.
