View Full Version : 3 UK posts losses of £972,000,000 for 2003
LONDON (Dow Jones)--The Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. (0013.HK) unit behind the set up of 3, the U.K.'s only fully operational third-generation mobile phone network, made a loss of GBP972 million for 2003, The Independent reports Wednesday, citing accounts filed in the U.K.
The loss includes GBP664 million for administrative expenses, including staff costs and a GBP201 million writedown on the value of its 3G spectrum license, which now stands at GBP4.28 billion, the paper says.

so THATS what a "favourable figure" looks like ? - :)
Not so much 'favourable' more plump and rounded..... a 'fuller figure' I suspect!

and thats with the highest ARPU (allegedly) of any UK network !
Indeed but the published accounts show the true picture. You cant hide cashbacks to dealers for payment (to customers) from the Revenue! All those costs have to be included for tax assessment purposes and they have to be both accurate and transparent.

Oh its the usual suspects forgetting the usual facts:
1) These figures are now old hat and are for the 2003 financial year - just as we are about to slip into 2005
2) Since these figures were logged 3UK has added the best part of a million new customers as the fastest growing UK network
3) Their start up costs (for the full article makes clear that these are their launch costs) were huge - having to put up thousands of new masts to achieve the UKs largest 3g network from scratch - in less than half the time it will take Orange and Voda etc to do the same!
4) They had to buy premises and all the hardware and software that the big four will just roll over from their 2g operations
5) Unlike Orange who are losing customers and senior managers hand over fist - 3 are expanding their business operation not shrinking them
I could go on but your pitiful attempt shows itself up...
So good attempt at your usual mischief making but its nothing more than I expect from someone who's been paid by rival firms to 3...

You can always make a negative out of a posative. Poor old 3. I read in a paper that H3G had started the oil price rise.
KEEP THE FAITH AND VOTE WITH YOUR HEART NOT YOUR WALLET

6 new phones out in time for Christmas. Network being upgraded around the country. Customer care improving and various mobile awards tell me that 3 is doing well. I had problems with my browser since yesterday. Now I dont blame 3 because in the terms and conditions it says that 3 can not guarantee full 3G coverage.
What happened in my case is that the network was being upgraded and another 3 mast is going online in early 2005. Not my wards but 3s

No!! Bush wins because of Orange 3G. Kerry lost because of 3 and its poor network coverage
